Joseph C. Dickey and family papers, 1860-1935.

Biographical information, correspondence, and Civil War documents relating to Joseph C. Dickey's army career (1860-1865); and correspondence (1899-1935) and newspaper clippings (1911) documenting the activities of his son, Bruce G. Dickey, while living in the Philippine Islands and in Teheran, Persia. Dickey, who moved to Minnesota from New York in 1858, joined the Second Company of Minnesota Sharpshooters in October, 1861, was wounded at Antietam in September, 1862, and discharged. He later joined Company I of the 23rd Illinois Infantry Regiment, from which he was discharged in July, 1865. His son, Bruce G., was employed by the Quartermaster Department's Office of Land Transportation and by the Collector of Customs in Manila (1899-1907), and later as one of five U.S. governmental advisors to the Persian government (1911-1912).
